BAC Nominations and Elections 2017

Dear Fellow Black Alumnus:

Thank you for your interest and participation in Black Alumni Council (BAC) of Columbia University. 
 
Nominations for two-year term elected officer positions on the BAC Board of Directors are now open. Please submit nominations by sending an email to [email protected] by Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 5:00pm (EST).

Additionally, a list of volunteer positions and committee posts to complete the 2017-2019 Board of Directors is below. Please volunteer or offer names and contact information for consideration.

Nominations for President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary (with a nominee’s consent) must contain the nominee’s name, contact email, school, graduation year, desired position, and a brief statement of support (not to exceed 500 words). Submissions will be reviewed and a slate of nominees will be announced by email by Friday, August 18, 2017.

Below are elected officer descriptions and volunteer board and committee posts.

Elected officer positions are two-year terms. An officer may serve two consecutive terms in the same office:

President: The President of the Board shall preside over all meetings, provide meeting agenda, act as liaison with the Columbia Alumni Association, appoint committee chairs, and with the secretary and treasurer, sign all written contracts on behalf of BAC.

Vice President: The Vice President shall assist the President and perform his or her duties in the event of the President’s absence or inability to act. The Vice President may be designated by the President to preside over Advisory Committee meetings, and shall assume principal responsibility and supervision of special committees.

Treasurer: The Treasurer shall keep all financial records and shall report annually to the Board on the financial status of the BAC. Except as otherwise provided by the Board of Directors, he/she shall, with the President, sign all financial contracts on behalf of the BAC.

Secretary: The Secretary shall prepare meeting minutes and keep records of attendance at Board and Committee meetings. Except as otherwise provided by the Board of Directors, he/she shall, with the President, sign all written contracts on behalf of the BAC. The Secretary shall also compile and distribute periodically a directory of the Active membership. 

Non-elected BAC positions include events, membership, fundraising and communications. Additionally, we need alumni liaisons with schools, BAC chapters (LA and DC), young alumni, and foundational classes.   • Programming (professional development, arts, health, etc.)

  • Foundational Classes (Up to 1978)

  • IRAAS Liaison
  • Student Group Liaison
  • Catalyst Network Foundation Liaison
  • School Representatives (grad, professional & undergraduate)
  • BAC Chapters in Los Angeles and Washington DC
